The next-gen console war may have already found a winner

Before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were even unveiled, gamers have been comparing the two consoles based on reported specifications and features.

Now, after both next-gen devices have been revealed, gamers are continuing this new edition of the console war, this time using actual, or in some cases speculative, specifications or features.

Unfortunately for Xbox fans, however, it seems that the Xbox One is losing ground to the PlayStation 4, at least in the hearts and minds of many gamers due to its lack of details in certain key areas.

First up, there's the ongoing controversy surrounding used games and the different digital rights management (DRM) systems that will be used by the Xbox One to stop or at least reduce the pre-owned games market.

While Microsoft officials are now emphasizing that the Xbox One will allow used games to be played, the damage has already been done after the console's reveal, which contained only loose details.

Meanwhile, Sony is apparently close to scrapping its own anti-used gaming system after the huge backlash from fans, which have even started different campaigns on Twitter.

Another key area is the requirement of an online connection. While Microsoft first denied that its Xbox One needed to be constantly only, it then mentioned that at least once every 24 hours the console must go online.

While that may not be technically constant, it's still going to be annoying or downright impossible for owners in many areas of the world to make sure their Xbox One can connect once a day to Microsoft's servers.

Sony, on the other hand, has emphasized from the start that the PlayStation 4 doesn't require an online connection and that games, even pre-owned ones, can be played offline without any other requirement.

These two important areas are currently offering the PlayStation 4 a big advantage over the Xbox One and, if Sony plays its cards right at E3 2013, Microsoft won't be able to retort no matter how impressive the exclusive games lineup will be.
