Blizzard launched Diablo 3, its latest dungeon crawling role-playing game, last week and in the following months Runic Games - a studio formed of veterans from Blizzard - is going to launch Torchlight 2, another RPG of the dungeon crawler variety.

While the two games are a bit different in terms of features and production values, many analysts have pitted them together to see which is the best.

While we’ve already reviewed Diablo III last week, we’ve only shared our impressions of the final beta version of Torchlight II earlier this week, so it’s too early to say which is the best example of a dungeon crawling RPG.

That isn’t important, however, as the two games offer great and relatively different experiences that will delight all sorts of RPG fans.

For longtime Diablo fans, the third installment is a worthy successor that offers the same tried and true gameplay but with a variety of simplified elements in order to make the experience a more fun-filled one.

For those who really want a complex RPG, then Torchlight II is more than ready to deliver, as players can freely customize a lot of things concerning their characters and even the pets that will accompany them throughout their adventures.

The biggest difference appears when you talk about the online mechanics, as both offer a cooperative experience but Diablo III requires a permanent online connection, while Torchlight II allows you to play the game alone without being connected to the web.

These two differences will certainly decide the “fight” for many gamers. Those without permanent online connections can choose Torchlight II, while those who want to easily jump into an online experience with friends can go for Diablo III.

In the end, both offer slightly different experiences that will surely attract many RPG fans.
