Next week one of my most anticipated games of the year is going to appear – BioShock Infinite.
As with many big games, I considered pre-ordering the game ahead of time and, thanks to the wide array of great offers brought forth by both Steam and other digital retailers, I ended up biting the bullet and pre-purchasing the game.
My service of choice was GreenManGaming which, besides offering the regular Industrial Revolution mini-game, not to mention a free copy of BioShock 1, also offered one of four other games, namely BioShock 2, Spec Ops: The Line, The Darkness 2, or Civilization V.
I ended up getting BioShock 2 as my bonus title as I didn't have it in my own Steam library.
After the number of Steam pre-orders unlocked the highest reward, in the form of a free copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, GMG quickly confirmed that it's also throwing in the game for free to customers who pre-ordered BioShock Infinite from it. As a result, I got not only BioShock Infinite but also BioShock 1, BioShock 2, Industrial Revolution, and XCOM.
Even so, while I'm certainly happy, I still have a sour taste in my mouth after recent lackluster titles like Aliens: Colonial Marines, SimCity, or Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2.
All were games that I briefly considered pre-ordering but, in the end, I skipped them and I'm now pretty relieved, as Aliens: Colonial Marines proved to be a disappointing shooter, SimCity was plagued by online errors, while Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was extremely bland.
I have high hopes with BioShock Infinite and I'm pretty sure that creator Ken Levine, together with his team at Irrational Games managed to craft a great experience, largely because of the impressive videos released up until now.
Even so, my heart still races when I think of March 26, the date when Steam lets me play BioShock Infinite, as I don't want to be disappointed.
