The website of the Philippines News Agency (pna.gov.ph), an agency managed by the country’s Presidential Communications Operations Office, has been defaced by the EvilShadow Team, a Chinese hacker collective.

The hackers defaced the site’s main page, posting the following message under a Chinese flag: “China Hacker EvilShadow Team. We are the evil shadow. We are the team. We have our own dignity. China Hacker Lxxker.”

According to PNA, the site had been defaced for around one hour. The attack appears to represent a form of retaliation against the arrest of Chinese fishermen whose ship grounded off the Tubbataha Reef, an UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Philippines.

“We continue to adopt measures that will strengthen the security of our websites,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma stated.

EvilShadow Team became known back in February 2012, after defacing the official Microsoft Store in India.

We haven’t been able to reach the members of the EvilShadow Team. However, if you want to know more about the team, you can check out the interview we had with one of their members some months ago.
