Anonymous hackers continue Operation Green Rights, the campaign initiated against companies accused as being responsible for “destroying nature and ancient cultures.

The operation’s latest target is AngloAmerican, a UK-based multinational mining company and the world’s largest platinum supplier.

The hackers breached the company’s angloplatinum.co.za and angloplatinum.com websites from which they leaked a fairly large amount of data.

The information published online by the hacktivists includes administrator usernames and passwords (in clear text), and investor details, such as names, email addresses, phone numbers and, in some cases, even passwords.

It’s difficult to say precisely how many records have been leaked, but there appear to be a few thousands.

The hacktivists highlight the existence of lawsuits and reports in which AngloAmerican is accused of unorthodox practices.

“Anglo American has mines, suchas Catalão, in Brazil, where they dig niobium and phosphates that are used to produce fertilizer, glyphosate, and herbicides like Monasanto's Round-up, which caused water contamination and genetic mutations,” the hackers stated.

“Great multinationals use ‘greenwashing’ in order to avert human rights complaints. So large firms raise funds from people declaring to protect mining war-areas and they use this money in order to get a better control of public opinion and mining areas. We say enough to all of this. We refuse this great lie which sounds like the Nazi propaganda of the 30s,” they added.

“Anglo American, you destroy nature and pursue and kill indigenous people. In the name of tribal leaders, whom you have offended, and the natives you have deported, in the name of the miners killed during a strike against your dirty company, in the name of nature that you consider as a source of gain: We curse you!”
