Unlocked Palm Pre 2 smartphones out there have now a new software update available for them, namely webOS 2.1.0, which was announced as available in the beginning of this week.

The new software bring the OS version on Pre 2 devices from webOS 2.0 to 2.1, and packs a wide range of enhancements and new features, including Touchstone's Exhibition mode, Voice Dial, and more.

The webOS 2.1.0 software version was already available for Palm Pre Plus users in Germany, and now it arrived on the newer Pre 2 smartphones as well.

According to Palm's support website, the webOS 2.1.0 update details for the said unlocked devices are the same as those for the Palm Pre 2 Rogers.

As stated above, the new features and applications added into the mix include Exhibition and Voice Dial. Here's what Palm has to say on them:

Exhibition

Exhibition gives you access to special applications that optimize use of the smartphone while it is placed on an HP Touchstone charging dock. The apps include Time (clock app), Photos (photo slide show), and Agenda (agenda view).

Exhibition turns on automatically when you place your smartphone on a Touchstone charging dock. When the smartphone is not on a charging dock, you can manually turn on Exhibition from the Launcher.

Voice Dial

You can dial contacts using your voice by launching the Voice Dial application. Voice dialing can also be initiated by pressing and holding the volume button at any time, or by tapping and holding Phone dial icon on the Phone dial pad. At the same time, the new OS upgrade brings a series of updates to various features already present with the device.

For example, the Palm profile would update call history entries, text messages, and instant messages now, Bluetooth keyboards are supported in the new release, and users can search for a task by starting the search with a symbol.

The new webOS 2.1.0 comes with some enhancements to the email as well, including fixes related to the file name of a track received as attachment and downloaded, to messages containing multiple replies, and the like.

A series of security issues with HP webOS software were also addressed with the new update. The entire list of changes is available on Palm's website here.
