One of the popular health applications available for the iOS platform has just been ported on Android devices. With more than 5 million downloads on the AppStore, WebMD for Android hopes to meet increasing consumer demand for trusted health information.

WebMD for Android provides consumers with the option to make decisions and health improvement efforts by enabling 24/7 access to health information and decision-support tools, especially optimized for mobile.

Features such as WebMD's Symptom Checker, Drugs & Treatments, First Aid Information and Local Health Listings are among the most important highlights of the application.

With WebMD Symptom Checker users can select the part of the body that is troubling them, choose the symptoms and learn about potential conditions or issues.

Drugs & Treatments feature allows users to search the developer's extensive database for information on drugs, supplements and vitamins. Additional content such as uses, side effects, and warnings can be accessed as well.

First Aid Essentials provides users with helpful tips in case of medical emergencies, even without an Internet connection.

Local Health Listings allows users to find the closest physician, hospital and pharmacy based on their current location or search by city, state or zip.

In addition, WebMD for Android integrates the new voice search functionality and allows users to take advantage of the voice activated search feature of their smartphones to look for information on a health condition, drug, treatment or first aid topic.

WebMD for Android is the next significant step for expanding our multi-screen market presence,” said Wayne Gattinella, president and CEO, WebMD. “We are proud to be selected by Google to showcase the new WebMD for Android App at their annual developer conference today.”

WebMD for Android is available as a free download via Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and newer.
