Angelina Jolie was recently in Haiti, where she became involved with organizations offering relief to the victims of the current earthquake. Speaking with CNN in an interview that will air this Sunday, the actress dispelled rumors of looking for a baby to adopt, stressing that the time was not right for this, but for taking active steps to help.

The moment word got out in the media that Angelina was in Haiti, speculation started to make the rounds that she was there to lend a helping hand, but also to look for a child to adopt, as she’s known to have done on past occasions, when she took children from disadvantaged countries she visited. However, this time it’s different, Jolie tells CNN in an interview airing tomorrow: it’s time to act and help and not think about adopting, especially since this might lead to increased trafficking.

“I think we have a moral duty to do what we can for any country that’s suffering. I think we have a very big obligation to the place... I’ll continue to come back and I’ll continue to express what I am learning. Trafficking has been a huge problem for a very long time... so I think everybody that means well needs to really take that very seriously, and not get frustrated, but really work with the country,” Jolie says in the CNN interview, via satellite connection from Port-au-Prince.

As for the rumor she’s there to adopt, it’s not true. “And for myself, as somebody who is an adoptive parent, I understand the urge to assist in that way, but now is not the time. An emergency is not the time for new adoptions anyway. I’m always open to children around the world. We’re that kind of family. Brad [Pitt] and I talk about that. But that’s not what we’re focusing on at this time, by any means. We’re not here for that. We’re here to see how we can help protect the children in the country and scale up the needs here,” the actress states.
