Android and iPhone also on the list

It was only a few days ago that news on an upcoming waze application for Windows Mobile broke out, and now we learn that the software solution is available for download, not only for Microsoft's operating system, but for Symbian, Android and the iPhone as well. Those who haven't yet encountered the application should know that it delivers waze's free turn-by-turn navigation service, which is based on driver-contributed data, and which also offers real-time traffic updates.

Up until now the application has been in beta for the Android and iPhone operating systems, and the company recently made available an alpha variant of waze for the Windows Mobile and Synbian-based mobile phones on the market. Now, all owners of a device running under the above mentioned OSes can enjoy a service that, unlike first-generation traffic networks, is based on the reports provided by drivers to deliver the maps and the traffic info updates.

Given the fact that this service relies on the community of drivers to update the data it delivers, the information available through it will become more and more accurate as a larger number of mobile phone owners download and use the application. As WMPoweruser notes, the general availability of the service should drive its adoption among users and should also deliver important enhancements to its quality.

“We are still in the early days of waze in the US and every new driver helps improve our service for other drivers, so it was obvious that we needed to develop for all major smartphone platforms,” said Noam Bardin, the company’s CEO. “Waze users contribute driving information passively via our free mobile application and all members get the benefit of free turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic information. In the background, we’re using the data to build real-time driving maps that will radically change the established map market. I would like to thank our enthusiastic and active community for their participation, suggestions, ideas and ongoing support of our project. Together, we can make commuting faster, smarter and a whole lot less frustrating.”

Head to the company's website to see what devices are supported and to download the application. Waze for Windows Mobile and for the iPhone can be downloaded from Softpedia as well.
