Indie studio Reason Generator Inc. just started the Kickstarter campaign for their first title, space western Wayward Terran Frontier.

Wayward Terran Frontier is an ambitious multiplayer space exploration game that focuses on making friends and venturing to the far reaches of space looking for adventure.

“I like the sci-fi setting because it lets me tell a story about the human condition. It seems that in the past, humans were at their best when they had a frontier to explore, but these days many of us use games to pass the time. I wanted to explore that idea in the story of my game,” said George Hultgren, founder of the one man studio.

Part of his design process involved playing games that were fun even though they initially seemed like they shouldn't be, and finding out how that works.

“I wanted to create a game that plays like a deep engrossing RPG, except as you play through it you learn that the mechanics are designed as a form of mental slavery for your character,” Hultgren added.

The game is far from being complete and how the events will unfold is impossible to tell yet. Hultgren has already provided a free alpha version of Wayward Terran Frontier, presenting a very barebones experience that is intended to hint at the game's final mood.

He says that he intends to keep the multiplayer client free even after the retail launch of the full game, and that he intends to develop it for multiple platforms, if the Kickstarter campaign manages to raise the necessary funds.

Many sci-fi fans have already started creating custom space ships and sharing their creations and adventures on the game's forums. One of the main attractions of the game is being able to walk around spaceships with your friends and coordinate with them in order to command large battleships.

“The villain of the story is the one handing out the quest rewards, constantly encouraging you to do RPG type things in a freedom and frontier themed game world," he concluded.
