The footballer player catches flack for his new fringe

Sadly, Wayne Rooney was never a fashion icon in the way that David Beckham is, and the same can be said for his hairstyle.

Granted, Rooney wasn't as lucky in terms of genetics as Becks, who's been blessed with a full mane of blond hair, but his new hairstyle seems eerily familiar to the one that Jim Carrey's character has in the hit comedy “Dumb and Dumber.”

Now, Wayne is the butt of Twitter jokes as his new fringe has people laughing and wondering if he's doing an audition for the remake of the film.

Rooney has been battling with a receding hairline for some years now, and he's even opted for hair transplants to keep up with the more stylish players in the Premiere League.

This procedure took place last year, but from the looks of things, it hasn't improved his looks, which begs the question on what have all those thousands of pounds been spent on.

Now, the football player can be seen trying to cover up his baldness with an unfortunate fringe that is the target of Twitter users who began a virtual roasting the minute he appeared on TV, giving an interview.

“Seen Rooney’s new fringe? Is he auditioning for Dumb and Dumber?” asked a fan on Twitter, while another chimed in “Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber! #shrek.”

While there are certainly better ways to cope with premature baldness, it seems that Wayne Rooney has a couple more things to learn in the future. While still unsuccessful, Rooney isn't by far the only British celebrity to have resorted to hair transplant. Some other famous names include celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey, X Factor judge Louis Walsh and former cricketer Phil Tufnell.

We wish him a full head of hair that he can comb on whichever side of his head he wants.
