The three astronauts part of Expedition 35 on the International Space Station are now safely back on Earth, as the Soyuz spacecraft that took them up in December also brought them back safely.

The three astronauts spent a total of 146 days in space, 144 of them aboard the International Space Station.

Expedition 35 Commander Chris Hadfield of the Canadian Space Agency, Soyuz Commander Roman Romanenko of the Russian Federal Space Agency, and NASA Flight Engineer Tom Marshburn served on the ISS as part of Expedition 34 and Expedition 35, which has now ended.

Hadfield, who has been tweeting from space for the past five months, didn't miss the opportunity to tweet about the landing as well.

"Safely home – back on Earth, happily readapting to the heavy pull of gravity. Wonderful to smell and feel Spring," Hadfield tweeted.

The departure marks the official beginning of Expedition 36 with Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov commanding the ISS.
