Users get to actually “build” Win 7

Even in terms of marketing campaign, Windows 7 is in a different league compared to Windows Vista. As far as its latest Windows client is concerned, the Redmond company went with a continuation of the “I’m a PC” concept. However, as users have undoubtedly already seen, the message was spiced up a tad. Microsoft produced a series of video ads that feature what appear to be everyday users praising Windows 7 and revealing that the operating system was truly a product of their ideas.

Of course, the phrase “I’m a PC and Windows 7 was my idea” along with the underlining concept does manage to leave a little room for interpretation. And of course, a search on YouTube reveals countess videos which have turned the marketing concept behind Windows 7 upside down. One of the latest to emerge is put together by College Humor, and is the first video embedded at the bottom of this article. They do have a humorous perspective over what could have really happened if Windows 7 had been the sum of its users’ ideas.

Fact is that there’s only so much that end users can get credit for, or can inspire Microsoft to build into an operating system. The Redmond company continues to be focused on producing a platform which appeals to the common denominator, the vast majority of Windows users. The “1 billion = 7” message at the end of some video commercials is designed to illustrate the fact that Windows 7 is tailored to its immense mass of users.

The second video embedded below is the actual video ad produced by Crispin, Porter + Bogusky. If this name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you heard it before as Microsoft unleashed the “I’m a PC” marketing campaign. Obviously, the same ad agency got to handle Windows 7, and all things considering, kept clear off the Windows Vista Wow.
