According to Apple, iPod nano now has a built-in video camera that “lets you record fun as it happens.” The camera-equipped iPod features a larger 2.2-inch display for easier navigating, enjoying album art, and watching the videos you’ve just taken.

“A quick scroll through the menu takes you to the video camera,” Apple explains on the designated web page. "Then you’re ready to record video in portrait or landscape — perfect for emailing or posting on Facebook or MobileMe. A built-in mic lets you capture audio, too. And when you play back your video on iPod nano, you’ll hear the recorded audio with it. All of which means your indispensable music player is now your indispensable video camera,” reads the description. The video function includes fifteen video effects, such as film grain or motion blur.

iPod nano also has a built-in FM radio with live pause, as well as iTunes Tagging. Apple also confirmed at yesterday’s event that the fifth-gen nano now has a built-in pedometer. Genius Mixes, which automatically creates up to 12 endless mixes of songs from your iTunes library “that go great together,” is just one more cool feature that the new nano has to offer.

Still, the video function is the most noteworthy addition, considering how thin and portable the iPod nano is. According to the tech specs, the camera is an H.264 VGA, capable of shooting video at 640 by 480 pixels and up to 30 frames per second with AAC audio. Real-time special effects include Sepia, Black and White, X-Ray, Film Grain, Thermal, Security Cam, Cyborg, Bulge, Kaleido, Motion Blur, Mirror, Light Tunnel, Dent, Stretch, and Twirl.

To show off the nano’s video capabilities, Apple has posted actual videos that have been shot with the new nano. Four of them are available below for your viewing pleasure. Just click on each picture and the respective video will open.
