The average human spends as much as 24 years of their life sleeping

If you have hectic work schedule or one really big family to look after, you are probably all too familiar with the effects of sleep deprivation. More so if you are one of those lucky few who have both.

Some of us like to think that they chase away the drowsiness resulting from not getting enough sleep with the help of coffee or energy drinks. As it turns out, this is not exactly a good idea.

As detailed in the video below, the average human needs to sleep about 7 to 8 hours on a daily basis. This means that your average Joe and Jane spends about 24 years of their lives sleeping.

Not getting enough sleep for several days in a row leads to impaired brain function, and even ups obesity and cardiac disease risk. Still, it looks like folks who sleep too much also risk putting on weight and developing various health problems.

What's interesting is that, according to several investigations, there are a few lucky people in this world who can get by with just 5 or 6 hours of sleep daily. These people owe this ability to a genetic mutation.
