It is a known fact that director Chris Nolan was inspired by Frank Miller's 1986 Batman graphic novel in the creation of his own Batman trilogy, which ends this year with “The Dark Knight Rises.” It is now being released as an animation.

“The Dark Knight Returns Part 1” is released by Warner Bros. directly on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download on September 25 and, to ride the wave tsunami created by TDKR, below is a first trailer.

Useless to say, this is for all you diehard Batman fans.

You will notice that there are several similarities between this animated film and TDKR, from the tone, the way Gotham is portrayed, Batman's long absence and even in the villain to a certain extent.

“The Dark Knight Returns Part 1” lists Jay Oliva as director, Bob Goodman as scribe, and Sam Register and Bruce Timm as executive producers.
