This past Monday evening, a rocket built by Russia's Krunichev State Research and Production Center exploded shortly after launch and crashed in Kazakhstan.

The rocket was launched from the Central Asian spaceport of Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 10:38 p.m. EDT (early Tuesday morning, local time), Space reports.

The video above shows the rocket veering out of control, starting to head back to Earth and exploding in mid air. Just before turning into a massive fireball, the rocket begins to break apart.

The unmanned rocket was transporting three navigation satellites. Word has it that the satellites were all destroyed when the explosion took place.

Scientists are presently unable to offer any explanation concerning how and why this launch failure occurred.

The incident is being investigated, and more information is expected to be shared with the public in the days to come.
