The penguin chick seems delighted to be in the spotlight

The Rockhopper penguin chick featured in the video above hatched at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago about a month ago. When it was born, it weighed merely 75 grams (2.6 ounces).

Over these past few weeks, it has been steadily putting on weight, and now tips the scales at little over 1,000 grams (35.2 ounces).

The baby penguin seems very proud of its newly acquired plump figure, and does not pass up any chance to flaunt it in front of a camera.

The video above shows it interact with its trainer. The latter is delighted to spend time in the baby penguin's company, and the hatchling does not seem to mind being in the spotlight.

Staff at the Shedd Aquarium explain that, since male and female Rockhopper penguins look the same, it is impossible to tell whether this chick is a girl or a boy, sources say.

They'll sort out this mystery once the chick grows strong enough for them to be able to carry out genetic tests.
