A few days ago, John Downer Productions shared this footage showing a penguin mom mourning the loss of its chick on YouTube, and the video has already scored over 140,000 hits.

I must warn you that, before hitting the “Play” button, it might not be such a bad idea to make sure that a box of tissues is close at hand. Otherwise put, odds are this video will make you want to shed a few tears.

According to Huffington Post, the footage is part and parcel of a series scheduled to air on BBC this coming February 11.

The series, dubbed “Penguins – Spy in the Huddle,” documents the life of emperor penguins in Antarctica, rockhopper penguins on the Falkland Islands and Humboldt penguins in the Atacama Desert of Peru.

The footage was obtained with the help of as many as 50 spycams installed by John Downer Productions.
