Keepers at the Smithsonian's National Zoo are proud to announce that a panda cub born at this facility nearly three months ago, on August 23, is making progress towards becoming an independent young lady.

A few days ago, the cub took its first steps. Luckily for us, the event was caught on camera. Check out the video above to see the cub desperately try to get up on her hind legs and go for a very short walk.

Before you even think about laughing at its attempts to get around on its tiny feet, remember that the amounts of cuteness this cub is forced to carry around with it would be more than enough to make even the strongest of us wobble.

Today says that the panda cub weighs little over 10 pounds, and that it now accompanies its mom on quests outside the den.

Granted, Mei Xiang has to carry it, but odds are that it will not be long before the baby panda starts exploring its surroundings all by itself. When that happens, be sure you'll learn about it here.
