Oddly enough, the battery retains most of its charge capacity

Here's a video that I think will be quite a sight for the eyes of those with an appetite for destruction. The video made it online just a few days ago; yet, it has already scored over 6,600 hits on YouTube.

One can only assume this is because there are a lot of people in this world interested in learning just how much torture an electric car battery cell can handle before it decides to pack its bags and go play with somebody else.

The battery cell featured in this video belongs to (better said, used to belong to) a Nissan LEAF. At first, its torturer stabs it with a screwdriver.

For some reason, he does not do this just once, but repeatedly. However, instead of bursting in flames, the battery cell settles for only letting out a few disgruntled hisses.

Next, the man grabs hold of a propane torch, and proceeds to try and burn it. The battery cell holds on for dear life, and still doesn't catch fire.

Oddly enough, when all is said and done, it is found to have retained most of its charge capacity.

Needless to say, you can enjoy the video (even watch it several times, if you feel like it), but you definitely must not try anything like this at home.
