The Nikon D4s has recently been launched, as the faster successor of the Nikon D4, but there’s an important change to the camera that has been hidden from eyesight, in the form of a new mirror damping mechanic.

The new D4s has a new mirror balancer, on top of the above-mentioned mechanic that’s able to cut down bounce when the camera is firing at 11fps.

The D4s manages to raise the bar with one extra frame per second, compared to its predecessor and now Nikon has posted a video showing those curious how exactly they made that possible.

Nikon Europe put together the video by using a Nikon 1 V2 to capture 1200fps video on the D4 and D4s shooting at full range. They then proceeded to put the videos side by side for users to get an idea of how stable the D4s mechanism is.

As it can be spotted in the video, the mirror dampening prevents the mirror from bouncing back while it is shooting. Hopefully, mirror stabilization will bring about another important by-product, in the form of reduced wear and tear on the camera’s body interior components.
