Or maybe everything you could have gone your entire life without knowing

I don't know about you, but I have to admit that, after watching this video, I would much rather go on a date with Hannibal Lecter than come face to face with a bird-eating spider.

The video was posted online this past March 25 by the folks at Earth Unplugged, and it details the weapons that the Goliath bird-eater relies on to catch its prey, kill it and then feast on its lifeless body.

Thus, these creatures rely on feet equipped with long and densely packed hairs to grab hold of what will soon be their next meal.

Nobody has yet checked to see if this is true, but it is assumed that bird-eating spiders have such a strong grip that they can support 173 times their own body weight.

The fangs, on the other hand, are also a sight to behold. They are made from a strong and hard polymer dubbed chitin, and their tips are reinforced with zinc and calcium.

Lastly, these creatures have evolved to produce a venom that acts on the nervous system and cause the spiders’ prey to become paralyzed. So yes, it would be best not to try to cuddle with one such spider.

Check out the video below to learn more about these amazing creatures, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
