The footage was shot in the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa. The first 40 seconds show a baby elephant running to greet another family member. Its mother follows it closely.
According to Joan Young, who posted the video on YouTube, the big elephant ran off to was its dad. “There are hundreds of elephants in the park and I wonder, from that distance, how the baby recognized the father?” Joan asks.
Unfortunately, an older sibling decides to also attend this family reunion, and pretty much ruins the last 20 seconds of this very endearing video.
I'm guessing adolescent elephants like family reunions just as much as teenagers do. And they really aren't afraid of showing how they feel.
