Video game publisher Ubisoft is ready to reveal that the recently launched Watch Dogs has managed to become the best-selling title in the history of the company over a 24-hour period, showing how quickly the player community adopted the experience.

The company believes that there is a good chance that the title will continue to break records in the coming days and weeks and that it might end up becoming one of the most successful releases of the year.

Jonathan Morin, the creative director working on the title, tells the official Ubisoft blog that, “I once said that the buzz around Watch Dogs was driven by the incredible passion of our early fans. Today we broke the record for the biggest first day sales in Ubisoft history. I can never say it enough: thank you everyone! We love you all for your passion and your creativity.”

Watch Dogs is an open world experience that allows players to become Aiden Pearce, a capable hacker who needs to put his knowledge to good use in order to complete his own revenge story and capture a number of bad guys along the way.

The developers at Ubisoft have created a futuristic version of Chicago that’s designed to offer gamers plenty of ways to interact with the city and a lot of NPCs that can be tracked and mined for information.

Yves Guillemot, the chief executive officer and a co-founder of the publisher, adds, “Watch Dogs is an amazing achievement and our teams should be proud that the creativity, innovation and long hours they invested in making this game are paying off. It’s great to see so many customers enjoy playing the game, and it shows that Watch Dogs has cracked the code for developing a new blockbuster IP and a thoroughly new-gen experience.”

The company has not offered exact sales numbers for Watch Dogs, despite the talk about its success, and there’s no info about the platform that gamers prefer.

The game is offered on the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PC and current-gen consoles and a version for the Nintendo-made Wii U should be launched before the end of the year.

Despite the successful launch, Ubisoft still has to deal with the big problems that are affecting the title on the PC, with plenty of players reporting that they are unable to play the game despite trying a range of fixes and tweaks.
