14 DAY TRIAL // There's a new viral video in town and its star is none other than business magnate, inventor, computer programmer (mentally insert about a dozen other fancy titles here) Bill Gates.
The video, available below, shows Bill Gates drinking water made from human waste. That's right, we can now feast our eyes on the sight of Bill Gates sipping on a glass of water that, just minutes before, was poop.
Mind you, the business magnate did not pull this little stunt hoping to get some media attention. He has no need or desire to do such things. The reason he drank the water made from poop was that he wanted to raise awareness about an emerging technology.
This technology is the brainchild of a small engineering firm that goes by the name of Janicki Bioenergy and that is based just outside the city of Seattle in the US, and boils down to turning waste into drinking water and electricity.
Janicki Bioenergy's station in Washington works by heating the waste up to the point when the water evaporates. The water vapors are then captured and condensed, and the sludge is burned for energy.
“I watched the piles of feces go up the conveyor belt and drop into a large bin. They made their way through the machine, getting boiled and treated,” Bill Gates details the experience.
“A few minutes later I took a long taste of the end result: a glass of delicious drinking water,” the business magnate goes on to say.
This technology is first and foremost intended for developing countries where water availability is an issue. With help from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Janicki Bioenergy hopes that it will soon manage to install such a station in Senegal.
