Just a few days ago, the green group World Wildlife Fund released this video showing a young and totally adorbs leatherback turtle trying to reach its home in the ocean shortly after having emerged from its egg.

The footage was posted on YouTube and has since collected thousands of views. All things considered, it could be argued that the video owes its popularity to the fact that this baby leatherback turtle is one of the cutest creatures ever.

In the video's description, the organization explains that leatherback turtles are of utmost importance to the wellbeing of our planet's marine ecosystems, which they are a part of. The bad news is that this species is now in trouble.

The World Wildlife Fund says that, for the time being, the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers leatherback turtles to be a vulnerable species. The fact that some people like to eat their eggs is partly to blame for the fact that these marine creatures risk going extinct.

“Leatherback turtles are fundamental links in marine ecosystems. They nest on beaches and later migrate, crossing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Sadly, leatherbacks are under threat. In the Coral Triangle, eggs are often taken by locals to sell or eat,” the video's description reads.
