If you feel like the weekend is decades away, here is a video that I dare say will cheer you up and help you make it till Saturday.

The footage above was shot in the waters off the coast of Maui, and shared online just a few days ago. It shows a baby humpback whale swimming around, playing and snuggling with its mom.

According to Vimeo user Justin Edwards, who was cool enough to share this video with us, the footage was obtained with the help of a drone fitted with a camera.

Apparently, such mother and calf humpback whale pairs are a fairly common sight in Hawaii. This is because this species of marine mammals uses this region as a breeding ground.

After birth, the baby whales spend about one year close to their mom. According to wildlife researchers, it is either while traveling to or while feeding in Alaskan waters that they become independent.
