Locals use ropes to grab hold of the animal, pull it out of the ditch

It may very well be that poachers are currently threatening the long-term survival of both elephants and rhinos, yet every once in a while good things do happen.

The video above shows a female baby elephant being rescued by locals in northeastern India after having fallen in a ditch and not being able to get out on its own.

Had it not been for these people, the baby elephant would probably not have survived. This is because neither of the other elephants in its herd managed to do anything to help it.

The locals who helped rescue the animal used ropes in order to grab hold of it and pull it out of the ditch.

The calf also received medical treatment, and veterinarians are confident that it will soon make a full recovery.
