About two weeks ago, Chicago's Brookfield Zoo welcomed a baby Addax antelope. The calf was born on June 7, and weighed about 19 pounds (8.6 kilograms) when arriving into this world.

The video above shows the baby antelope trying to gain control over its limbs and take its first steps. Despite having been born just a couple of hours earlier, the calf looks determined to succeed in its endeavor.

The baby antelope's parents are 4-year-old Sara and 11-year-old Winston. Zoo staff decided to pair them after being advised to do so by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Since addax antelope are presently listed as an endangered species, zoos are trying to make sure that the population looked after in captivity is both healthy and genetically diverse.

More so given the fact that several organizations worldwide are now looking into the possibility of reintroducing these animals into the wild.
