Bet you didn't know it would take 55 hours for us to get our daily energy need, were we to plug ourselves into a wall

There's a lot of talk about energy these days, be it in the context of the power industry or that of what constitutes a proper daily calorie intake.

Then again, the need to push for clean power and fighting obesity are hot topics in this day and age, so this should not come as a surprise.

For those interested in learning more about energy and how it shapes our lives, here's a video detailing some pretty amazing facts about this property of objects and the many forms it can take.

Admittedly, this latest video shared with us ordinary folks by the brainiacs behind YouTube channel AsapSCIENCE is nothing short of cool from beginning to end. Still, there are two pieces of information that I found especially interesting.

First off, there's the news that, to get a day's worth of food energy, we would have to plug ourselves into a wall for about 55 hours, provided that we charged at the speed of a laptop. However, if we were more like microwaves, it would only take 1.9 hours.

Mind you, we're talking energy equivalents here, so don't go looking for any sockets to stick your fingers in. I mean it! Sockets can only feed our gadgets and gizmos, and will most certainly kill you if you start playing with them.

The other mind-blowing piece of information I was referring to earlier boils down to the fact that, each and every minute, the Sun sends enough light our way to meet our energy demands for a full year. The problem is that, for the time being, we are yet to make the most of this energy source.

These being said, I'll leave you to watching this latest AsapSCIENCE video spilling the beans on what energy is and what is does. Here's hoping you'll enjoy it as much as I have.
