Wasteland 2's backers will be able to enjoy the game for the first time. Brian Fargo, the main design force behind the game, updated the project's Kickstarter page with this exciting announcement.

Starting today, any backer on a tier above $55 / €40 can log in to their Ranger Center account and retrieve a Steam key for the Wasteland 2 beta.

The developers have also mentioned that due to popular demand, they will also offer the game on Steam Early Access, but only after their initial backers have had their first look.

“For the Wasteland 2 beta, we are not putting any restrictions on written and video coverage. Feel free to stream the game, produce YouTube videos, blog about it or write articles about it.

“The only thing we ask is that you explicitly mention that this is a backer/early access beta, and not necessarily representative of the final product,” Brian Fargo commented regarding coverage permission throughout the beta, as quoted by GameInformer.

The developers stated that all of the game's major systems are implemented, but reminded their fans that this was an ambitious game both in terms of scale and the amount of reactivity they have planned, and that there were still many issues to be addressed.

In the official update, developer inXile has also mentioned that the game will feel more linear than the full experience will, because the beta doesn't include all the Arizona maps.

The user interface needs more work, as does the skill system, some skills being yet unavailable. Also missing are some sound effects and the fog of war in the navigation map.

The beta will, however, give players a taste of what the game will feel like once it's done, and its main stated purpose is for players to offer valuable feedback to the developers
