Admittedly Warren Beatty was always seen as the ultimate ladies’ man, mostly because he rarely chose to speak out about his many conquests. Good looking and immensely charming, though, the star seemed to have all the key ingredients to be a heartbreaker. Which he was, a new book published this week claims, bedding an estimated 12,775 women since he was 20 until he met and married his wife, Annette Bening, People informs.

Written by Peter Biskind, “Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America” makes use of simple arithmetic to come this impressive number. At the same time, the author also uses statements coming from Beatty himself, from old interviews, as well as from his former flames, some of which even reportedly dumped him because he was too much in the bedroom, the author says. Moreover, this number doesn’t include one-time flings.

“‘Using simple arithmetic,’ author Peter Biskind calculates, according to New York Post, Betty bedded ‘12,775 women, give or take, a figure that does not include daytime quickies, drive-bys, casual gropings, stolen kisses and so on.’ […] Among Beatty’s conquests, Biskind writes, the ‘Bonnie and Clyde,’ ‘Heaven Can Wait’ and ‘Reds’ star-producer can claim Jane Fonda, Joan Collins (whom he exhausted), Leslie Caron, Isabelle Adjani, Julie Christie, Diane Keaton, Madonna and, of course, the actress Beatty married in 1992, Annette Bening,” People writes.

However, Beatty’s attorney has already issued a statement regarding the new book, saying that it all boils down to exaggeration. The star’s love life was by far as adventurous and wild as the book claims it was: in fact, other reports in the media say, it could not have been possible for him to have so many lovers in the timeframe cited by the author, namely in 55 years, until he married Annette, at least, not at the rate of keeping a lover for more than a couple of days.

As Beatty’s attorney puts it, the book is far from being an authorized biography, verging more on fiction than on pure facts. “Mr. Biskind’s tedious and boring book on Mr. Beatty was not authorized by Mr. Beatty and should not be published as an authorized biography. It contains many false assertions and purportedly quotes Mr. Beatty as saying things he never said. Other media should not repeat things from the book on the assumption that they are true or that the book is an authorized biography,” the star’s attorney says in a press statement.
