THQ and Relic Entertainment have announced that some fresh downloadable content is coming to the recent Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, in the form of both free and paid add-ons, just as the companies confirmed that over 1.2 million units of the game were shipped since its release back in September.

Space Marine impressed us with its sharp gameplay, gratuitous violence and the decent story that told the adventures of Ultramarine Captain Titus, set in the rich Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Now, after the game received its first free downloadable add-on last month, in the form of the Exterminatus DLC that brought a new cooperative mode to the online features of the title, Relic Entertainment, its developer, and THQ, its publisher, have confirmed that more DLC is coming.

First up, there's a paid add-on which brings a new mode, called Chaos Unleashed, for the Exterminatus cooperative one. It allows players to take control of Chaos Marines and fight against both the regular Orks from the single-player campaign, as well as Imperial Guards, on three new maps.

"The premium add-on pack will include a new Exterminatus mode called Chaos Unleashed," Relic said. "In this update to the popular co-op mode players will take on the role of Chaos Space Marine as they take the fight to both the Ork horde and Imperial Guard forces. With brand new boss rounds, new co-op arenas and new enemy units like the Imperial Sanctioned Psyker this mode is a must-have for players looking for a new challenge."

"As well as the Chaos Unleashed Mode, the Space Marine add-on pack also includes three new multiplayer maps Habs Ablaze, Station Tertius and Aquila Canyon which can be played in all multiplayer game modes. The pack will also include ten new achievements and trophies."

Another batch of paid DLC will also appear in the form of player skins, including unique Salamanders, Alpha Legion, Legion of the Damned, and Blood Angel packs.

If paying money isn't your style, there's a free DLC pack coming, which brings a special Capture the Flag mode for the competitive multiplayer, playable on all of its existing maps.

All these add-ons are expected to appear for Warhammer: Space Marine this December.
