Growing pretty quickly

Mythic Entertainment, the developer of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, are now announcing that the game has more than 750,000 registered subscribers, coming from North America, Europe and Australia.

Mark Jacobs, co-founder of the company and general manager of the game, says that “Thanks to our players, the war between the Realms continues to escalate at an incredible pace”, and added that “The battlefields are alive with three quarters of a million players fighting for the forces of Order and Destruction in truly epic and unparalleled Realm vs. Realm battles!”.

Of the registered players, more than 500,000 came to Warhammer Online in the first week after the September 18 launch. The game was also the most pre-ordered PC title in Electronic Arts' portfolio and the developers are also saying that they shipped more than 1,5 million copies to various retailers in the world.

Warhammer Online has to get as many players in the game as quickly as possible for a host of reasons. First off, the second expansion for World of Warcraft, called Wrath of the Lich King, will soon launch and some players who have left WoW for WAR might be tempted to go back to their old stomping ground. If WAR has a big install base, then it can afford to lose some players to another MMO.

WAR also needs players because one of the main gameplay mechanics, the public quests, work better if there are plenty of them around. If the servers are not filled with players, then the game will probably be forced to decrease the number of servers, like Age of Conan did not so long ago.

If you're interested in more Players versus Players fighting, with a lot of Realm versus Realm action, all set against the interesting background of the Warhammer lore, then you can join the 750,000 already playing Warhammer Online.
