Is rumored to shine brighter than the sun

Last week, Mythic, as the developer, and Electronic Arts, as publisher, announced that Warhammer Online, more affectionately known as WAR, would be delayed from its Spring release date all the way to an Autumn date.

Now, Jeff Hickman, who is senior producer of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning MMO at EA Mythic, spoke to Eurogamer about the reasons for the delay and how the game itself was shaping up. Apparently, it's all done from a purely technical stand point and the game could be launched tomorrow if the developers wanted. The only catch is that they don't want to launch tomorrow and have actually requested six more months from Electronic Arts to polish the game.

Jeff Mickman said that: "We're looking at every quest in the game, we're looking at how the land is set up, all of the content. Everything, And making sure that it feels the way that it needs to feel, and that we want it to feel, so that we can have a slam dunk success when we launch the game."

In other words, they are reviewing their entire game to make sure that players will get the most out of the experience without worrying about the need for patches, tweaks and add-ons. It's a very interesting position coming from a game developer, but one that fits nicely in the "new way" that John Riccitiello has presented for Electronic Arts.

While the last layer of primer and paint is being sprayed over WAR, eager gamers can pre-order the Collector's Edition of the game and get some more bang for their buck. The limited addition, which will have around 60,000 copies available for sale, will offer gamers additional exclusive quests, some items and a graphic novel. Reading it all may tie one over till the release date for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, which might be earlier during Autumn rather than later.
