Publisher THQ has announced that its upcoming Warhammer, 40,000: Space Marine will be getting a PC version when it launches. The game has already been confirmed as coming to the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and to the PlayStation 3 from Sony. The game does not have an official launch date at the moment and Relic Entertainment, best known for creating the Dawn of War real time strategy titles based on the same universe, is creating the new title.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be played from a third person perspective and will feature a mix of action elements and role playing mechanics. The player will be able to experience the combat power of one Space Marine, a genetic engineered super soldier that has complete faith in the Emperor of humanity and access to the best armor and weapons created by the most dedicated Techpriests of the Forge worlds. The immediate threat that the Space Marines will be facing is an invasion from Ork hordes that are trying to take over a Forge world but the complex politics of the Warhammer 40,000 universe probably means that more nefarious forces are at work and bigger threats will be tackled.

Relic has been widely praised for the way it has handled the real time strategy titles built around the Warhammer 40,000 universe and it will be interesting to see what the company can do with a more up close, personal type of experience.

Jonathan Dowdeswell, who is the general manager of Relic Entertainment, stated when the announcement was made, “The loyal PC audience is incredibly important to us here at Relic so we are delighted to be able to announce the PC version of the game.” Meanwhile Travis Plane, the vice president of Global Brand Management added, “Delivering great content the fans want to play is the key goal in the core games division at THQ so we are pulling out all of the stops to make this the best possible game for PC and console audiences alike.”
