Digital Extremes' free-to-play third-person shooter Warframe is now available worldwide on the Xbox One computer entertainment system, and the developer has released a nice video showing it in action on Microsoft's console.

Warframe is the first free-to-play video game released through Microsoft's ID@Xbox program, an initiative that enables independent game creators to self-publish digital titles on the Xbox One system. The program is available to all sizes of indie devs, not just to AAA-makers like Digital Extremes.

"Warframe has been a labor of love for our team for over a decade. We believed in this concept when no one else did and it's so satisfying to see the incredible reception it's received from the gaming world - and now with the Xbox One launch it will just keep getting better," said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes.

Warframe is a science-fiction video game set in a sprawling and ever-evolving world, where players have to fight all across the Solar System and learn the intricacies of their Warframes.

The fast-paced PvE shooter has squads of four players delve into perilous locations, braving challenging missions in order to advance their in-game characters and fight the oppression of the genocidal Grineer, the game's primary antagonist faction.

The Xbox One launch trailer outlines the game's plot and highlights some of the core gameplay elements, including Warframe's great melee combat system and class-based special abilities.

The second video is an introduction from Creative Director Steve Sinclair, aimed primarily at newcomers, telling them what kind of things they can expect if they join the Warframe community, although the fact that you're a cyborg ninja seems like enough of a selling point as it is.

The game has a pronounced emphasis on cooperative multiplayer, and its gameplay revolves around clans, taking full advantage of the social connectivity and community building features embedded in the Xbox One platform.

Game DVR will enable gamers to capture their greatest moments and share them with their friends, and second screen functionality through SmartGlass will allow players to employ the Warframe Nexus companion app in order to gain real-time hints pertaining to vital in-game information, such as alters to critical missions.

In addition to this, the Warframe Nexus app will also allow newcomers to browse the Codex, the encyclopedia which provides key information on all the Warframes, weapons, mods and everything else gamers need to organize and formulate their play strategy.

Warframe is now available to download for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
