Developer Gaijin Entertainment has announced that the War Thunder official international championship, titled Gladiators.WT 4x4, will be taking place in-game.

War Thunder is a free-to-play aerial-combat-simulation game for the PC and PlayStation 4, currently in Open Beta, and in development for Mac and Oculus Rift.

The game features aircraft, vehicles and ships ranging from the pre-World War II era up to the early Korean War era, and most in-game maps are based on real-life battles in that timeline.

Gaijin Entertainment is currently also holding a closed beta test of the land combat portion of War Thunder, Ground Forces, offering a wide selection of armored vehicles to warfare simulation enthusiasts.

Registrations are now open for the competition that offers more than $28k/€21k in prizes, players having a chance to win powerful gaming laptops, video cards and tablets in addition to in-game rewards.

The Gladiators.WT 4x4 championship will be running until the end of March 2014, during which the 1800 pilots from over 30 countries will battle for aerial supremacy.

The qualifying rounds will narrow the contestants from 310 to 32 final teams, at which time a playoff will determine the true champion.

The event is split into two divisions, Realistic and Simulation battles, and teamwork will be essential in securing the win.

The official hardware partner of the tournament is MSI, and every member of the champion team in both divisions (12 players) will get a powerful gaming laptop, along with various in-game prizes.

Valuable prizes will also be awarded to each of the teams coming in second and third places, in every division.

Interested players can also take a look at the official rules and regulations, and non-participating gamers can follow the tournament and even watch live streams of selected battles on the War Thunder forums.
