According to Russian developer Gaijin Entertainment, War Thunder is home to more than 8 million players worldwide. That’s a serious reason for the studio to bring new features and improvements regularly.

The latest update for one of the most successful Russian games these days is called Steel Generals and brings lots of new content, mechanics and improvements.

The MMO World Wide II online game War Thunder is now getting the first six American tanks and according to developers, by the end of 2015, there will be more than 30 US tanks that fought in World War II included in the game.

Steel Generals is the largest expansion War Thunder has received since its launch. The update is only available as a closed beta and those accepted will be able to try out any of the 6 new US tanks included, as well as all the other new features and improvements.

Along with the release of the closed beta version of Steel Generals, developer Gaijin Entertainment announced that special packages are available for purchase, containing premium US tanks and other bonuses alongside closed beta access.

In order to participate in the Steel Generals beta, players need to enter into contests and in-game events in War Thunder. The update is planned for final release in Q1 2015, but an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

9 new vehicles and telescopic sights for aircrafts have also been added

Apart from the new US tanks included in the expansion, developers also added 9 new vehicles, including the Russian twin-turret heavy tank SMK, new Tiger tanks and Japanese fighters, along with new jets.

Tank drivers will be happy to know that developers thought it would be wise to add two cables, which will allow them to tow damaged tanks or put them right on their tracks when they roll over after a collision.

Artillery Strike has been modified so players can now use it directly on the map instead of aiming on the battlefield. These strikes can now be aimed at any point on the map except for spawn points.

Telescopic sights on aircrafts now have a view similar to the sniper view. The damage model for aircraft has been enhanced even further. Depending on the type of damage, an aircraft will behave differently.

Last but not least, the Breakthrough mode, which was tested in Poland for the first time, has been added on most of the Ground Forces maps where players will need to capture a series of points one after another and prevent the enemy from capturing their points.
