New campaign rolled out by Google

Gmail offers no less than 2.8GB of free storage size but sometimes it's not enough and the user is forced to look for alternatives. Until now, there has been a close competition between Gmail and Yahoo Mail, especially addressed to the storage capacity and, as far we can see, the Sunnyvale company has won it. Let me explain it better. First of all, Google has just rolled out a special campaign for Gmail and Picasa that allows the interested consumers to buy storage size in order to be able to host larger files. At this time, the offering includes 6 GB for $20 per year, 25 GB for $75 per year, 100 GB for $250 per year and 250 GB for $500 per year.

"As someone who tests Google products daily, I know that the simplest solution is often the one that works best. In the case of online storage, whether it's a picture, a video or an email, you should just, well, be able to store it without having to worry about whether you've got enough space in each particular product," Ryan Aquino, Software QA Engineer Lead, Picasa Web Albums, said today.

"That's why the Picasa team is pleased to tell you that in a few hours we'll be rolling out extra storage that you can purchase to use across several Google products (today, Picasa Web Albums and Gmail; soon, other applications like Google Docs & Spreadsheets). That will help make storage really useful, like letting you upload lots of full resolution images to Picasa Web Albums."

Now, it seems like the giant portal Yahoo has won the competition since its mail service offers unlimited storage size for all the users. In comparison with Gmail, Google's mail product which offers 2.8 GB storage capacity and additional size available for purchase, Yahoo Mail is more attractive for the consumers although it is regarded as less efficient when it comes to spam filters.
