La Cie is a company very well known for creating products that are both innovative and quite attractive from the design point of view. And the latest such device offered by the company is the LaCie Huby, an all-purpose hub that will fulfill all your connectivity fantasies, ranging from FireWire to USB 2.0.

As mentioned before, one of the greatest things about this device is its design. Thus, the Huby has been designed exclusively for LaCie by the world-famed technology designer, Ora-?to, and features a round shape, glossy white polycarbonate finish as well as flexible, squid tentacles-like cables, which grant it a distinctive and modern look. However, there's more about this device than meets the eye, since the Huby features 4 USB ports as well as 2 FireWire ones, thus allowing 6 external devices to be connected simultaneously.

Moreover, the Huby comes with 8 flexible, twistable cables (5 USB 2.0 & 3 FireWire 400), a USB fan, a USB light, a USB extension cable and a FireWire 400 extension cable, thus making it ready to connect to just about everything you might think of right out of the box. Here's a list of the most important features and specifications this device has to offer:

- dimensions: 110 x 130 mm (without cables); - weight: 900 grams; - features: 4 USB 2.0 ports & 2 FireWire 400 ports; - includes: 8 flexible cables, 8 colorful LEDs, USB light, USB fan; - interface: 4 x downstream USB 2.0 (type A) & 1 upstream USB 2.0 (type B) ports; 2 x downstream & 1 x upstream FireWire 400 (6-pin IEEE 1394a) ports; - transfer rates: USB 2.0: up to 480Mbits/s FireWire 400: up to 400Mbits/s; - completely hot-swappable.

The Huby from LaCie will be launched in late December 2006, but if you've really liked what it has to offer, you can always pre-order it, the price being quite a reasonable one, just around 80 US dollars.
