People wondering what had come of Google's Chromebooks need wonder no longer, as the company turns out to have donated a bunch of them to healthcare establishments, like the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Chromebooks may not have much storage of their own, but they can communicate and use the web as easy as it would be for a human to snap his or her fingers.

It is this web functionality that patients from the US Walter Reed National Military Medical Center will get to enjoy while being cared for there.

As revealed not long ago, Google donated 100 Chromebooks to the facility, so that patients may easily keep in touch with family and friends.

Additionally, the Red Cross has partnered with Google for the distribution of an extra 500 Chromebooks to other hospitals.

The list includes Navy Medical Center San Diego, Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

“The Google Chromebooks will be a terrific tool for these patients,” said Sherri L. Brown, Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Senior Vice President.

“Many of these men and women are far from home. The Chromebooks will provide patients and families with a means to keep in touch, as well as an opportunity for patients to continue relationships with other families they met while at Bethesda.”

Red Cross volunteers are being trained to use the new devices and, in turn, will assist patients in utilizing them to the fullest.

Furthermore, people being treated in the aforementioned facilities will get to look through a “Stay In Touch While On The Mend” guidebook, also for getting a hand of the Chromebooks.

“While health care providers ensure world-class medical care for the wounded, ill and injured service members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, our Red Cross volunteers provide comfort and peace of mind by providing a piece of home,” Brown said.
