Players will feel pressured to do the right thing in each situation

The team at Telltale Games working on The Walking Dead: Season Two says that the new focus on Clementine as the main character means that players might find it harder to do the things necessary to survive in the undead plagued world.

Dennis Lenart, the director of first episode of the game, tells PC Gamer that, “there’s a lot more of the feeling of ownership, but also, at the same time, I think it really puts you in an interesting head space, where you really feel like the world is just all hits, pressing down around you. It’s The Walking Dead, so no one’s safe at any time. You know that everything you do has repercussions.”

During the first season of The Walking Dead, gamers were expected to perform a lot of actions that served as practical or moral lessons for Clementine, preparing her for a future when she might need to survive with a lack of support.

Mark Darin, a writer on the project, says that faithful players will be able to see how the choices they have already made are impacting Clementine and the world around her.

He adds, “The choices you made in Season One and the things you did with Clementine color who she is in Season Two. That’s an important thing for us. We’re trying not to be super heavy-handed with it, but we’re really retaining that sense of feeling like the Clementine you helped raise in Season One, this is the logical progression of that arc that you went through with her.”

The Walking Dead: Season Two will keep its core mechanics, mixing adventure based on fast button presses and puzzles.

Telltale promises that the narrative will contain more emotion and that they should be prepared for some big surprises.

The company is also working on The Wolf Among Us and on a game based on the Game of Thrones HBO series.
