The event might take place in the near future as long as the two teams collaborate

Robert Kirkman, the creator of the original The Walking Dead comic book, says that he is interested in the possibility of creating a crossover event, which involves the television show based on his post-apocalyptic universe and the video game series from Telltale Games.

VG247 quotes him as stating that, “That door is always open for us, though whether or not we step through it remains a big question. I certainly wouldn’t want to spoil anything cool like that if we had it coming up. Scott Gimple, our showrunner, is certainly a huge fan of that game series as well and very familiar with it.”

The statement might be interpreted as a sign that Kirkman is actively investigating the potential crossover and that it might happen in the near future, maybe as soon as next year.

At the moment, Telltale is already working on the second full season of its episodic game series and it’s unlikely that it can change its narrative on very short notice.

On the television show, one of the video game characters was mentioned briefly during last season, but it’s unclear if this is part of a wider plan to launch a common storyline.

Kirkman says, “That was a little nod to those fans, to let them know that we’re aware of the greater Walking Dead universe. It’s always fun to come up with those little things.”

Telltale Games says that A House Divided is the title of the next episode of The Walking Dead – Season 2, which is set to be launched soon on the PC, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and iOS mobile devices.

The series has been very successful, but a crossover event will mean that the franchise might witness a very fast expansion of its audience if TV watchers try to see what the video game has to offer.
