Developer Ankama Games has shared its plans to take down the current crafting system in its popular MMO Wakfu and morph it into something entirely new.

The news came via the Wakfu developer blog, where the devs point out that no changes will be made in the planned February update, and that although the revamp decision is final, there are still many changes to oversee.

Wakfu is a free-to-play quirky cel-shaded massively multiplayer online game with turn-based tactical combat that offers more depth than its simplistic and cartoonish visuals may initially suggest.

Players can choose from 15 different classes and transform their experience with the game into a breathtaking journey, set in a vibrant world where player actions directly impact the game's ecosystem.

The game also features a rich political system, and players can defend their nation against attacks or go and conquer new territories, vote and elect government officials and even run for office themselves.

The new system will recreate crafting as a time-based affair, where player assign different tasks to their workers, each task taking a set amount of time to complete. Players will be able to continue their adventures while the NPCs are busily working, therefore removing the need for players to park their avatars while crafting.

Characters will begin their crafting journeys with a single crafting slot, and will be able to unlock additional task slots by completing various related achievements, allowing more tasks to be completed simultaneously.

Additionally, the new system will also introduce a contracting mechanic that will allow buyers to place orders with chosen crafters, being able to negotiate the final price and even supply the required materials.

The contracting system will automatically deliver the item to the buyer's inventory once completed, thus facilitating transactions.

The team stated that it is still too early to offer a prospective date for the new crafting system, as it is currently only in a concept state and many things may change in the future or during functionality development.
