According to the company, the new solution is able to provide up to 30 percent faster transfer speeds than previous NAS solutions, while also featuring DLNA media streaming capabilities. The new WD ShareSpace also provides ease of use and comes in a rather small footprint, being a great option for small offices as well as for digital enthusiasts, allowing them to store, share and protect massive amounts of data.
The WD ShareSpace's flexible four-bay design includes Western Digital's industry-first 2 terabyte WD Caviar Green drive, while delivering an impressive 8 TB storage solution in a small footprint. The hard disks include WD GreenPower technology, as well as an efficient cooling architecture and power saving mode, offering up to 33 percent more energy efficiency, while also being cool and quiet. In addition, the ShareSpace also includes the WD Anywhere Backup software, which is able to deliver automatic and continuous data protection for any PC and Mac on the network.
At the same time, WD also added a DLNA Certified media server to the ShareSpace system, allowing for easy music streaming, as well as music, photo and video sharing to DLNA-Certified devices such as Windows Vista PCs, Playstation3, and Xbox 360. The included iTunes Music Server allows anyone to stream the music collection on the NAS from any PC or Mac in the network.
WD also announced that the new 8 TB ShareSpace system would become available in the following two weeks, and is expected to hit the Indian market at a MSRP of $1,700. At the same time, the WD ShareSpace network storage system also comes in capacities of 2 TB and 4 TB with a 3-year limited warranty.
