Hamrick Software, founded by Ed Hamrick, is the developer of VueScan, a powerful scanning software application available for Mac, Windows and Linux. The program assists users by automatically adjusting images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to work in Photoshop, or other graphic-editing programs. VueScan supports around 1,000 scanners on Mac OS X alone.

On its website, the developer reveals that VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners, producing colors that look true-to-life. It offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, as it supports more than 100 brands of negative films. Requirements include Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or later, and a supported scanner. VueScan currently supports multiple different scanners on Windows.

With VueScan 8.6.08 out, Hamrick Software hopes it was able to fix problems with the 'Input | Multi page' option, a problem with incorrect crop box when changing frame number, and issues with some Canon and HP scanners on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Hamrick Software also addressed a problem with HP PSC 2410 scanners, while improving automatic cropping, in recent releases. According to the developer, users of this feature will see a significantly improved performance.

Readers can update to the latest version of VueScan by using the download link below. VueScan will automatically recognize if the user has already purchased their own copy of the program. To update, users need to install it over the old version. Upgrades are free in the first year after purchasing the Standard Edition. Upgrades are always free if one owns the Professional Edition. VueScan constantly adds new scanner models as they are released by their manufacturers, while support for compatible scanners is improved on a regular basis.
