Dedicated kiddie-slates have been popping on the market like mushrooms after the rain, in recent months, but some experts advise against the risks of letting your child engage with a tablet from a young age.

But how young is too young? Device manufacturer Vtech seems to believe sooner is better than later, so it has announced one of the first baby tablet ever, the InnoTab 3 (via Pocket-lint).

The new tablet has been created for babies as young as 12 months and represents a customized version of the original InnoTab 3 launched in 2012.

The main difference is that the new InnoTab 3 Baby features a highly resistant shell to protect the inwards of the tablet from the curious hands of the infants.

The tablet comes bundling with age-appropriate content that includes 12 songs, a baby cartridge and a baby-stylus because children these days pick up things so fast.

Once you remove the super protective casing, you end up with a regular kiddie slate (with the same specs as the InnoTab 3) to be used by older children, in case you have any.

The InnoTab 3 Baby is expected to make it in shops before Christmas 2014 and sell for a price of £79.99 / $132 / €98.
