we are reaching the end of the Solar System

A few days ago, saying that "we are reaching the end of the Solar System" sounded like a phrase from a science-fiction movie.

But NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) revealed that their craft Voyager 1 was nearing the end of the Solar System and is currently passing through a region known as the heliosheath.

The heliosheath marks the outermost edge of the solar system, and should be reached by Voyager in 2015.

"This is a historic step in Voyager's race," said the California Institute of Technology physicist Edward Stone, the mission's chief scientist since Voyager One and its twin, Voyager Two, were launched in the summer of 1977. "We have a totally new region of space to explore, and it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Voyager 1 has traveled 9 billion miles away from the Sun and now it is ready to move beyond what you know as The Universe.

Wherever they go, each Voyager carries a golden phonograph record which bears messages from Earth, including natural sounds of surf, wind, thunder and animals. There are also musical selections, spoken greetings in 55 languages, along with instructions and equipment on how to play the record.
